Metter High School and its student body are proud to announce that former Candler County Schools Superintendent Dr. Bubba Longgrear has been selected to serve as the Grand Marshal of the 2026 Metter High School Homecoming Parade.
The annual Homecoming Parade will take place Thursday, September 17, at 4:30 p.m. in downtown Metter as part of Metter High School's Homecoming Week festivities, scheduled for September 14–18.
Dr. Longgrear dedicated many years of his career to serving the students, staff, families, and community of Candler County Schools. During his tenure as superintendent, he provided leadership to the district while remaining committed to student success and strengthening the relationship between the school system and the greater Candler County community.
His selection as Grand Marshal provides an opportunity for Candler County students, staff, alumni, and community members to recognize his years of service and the lasting impact he has made on public education in Candler County.
"Dr. Longgrear has been an important part of the history of Candler County Schools, and we are excited to honor him during one of our community's most cherished traditions," says Zach Rackett, Metter High School Principal. "Homecoming is a time to celebrate not only our current students but also the people who have helped shape our schools and our Tiger Pride over the years."
Dr. John Jordan, Superintendent of Candler County Schools, says Dr. Longgrear's impact on the school system and community continues well beyond his years as superintendent.
"Dr. Longgrear's commitment to Candler County Schools and the Metter community continues to leave a legacy," Dr. Jordan says. "His leadership was rooted in a genuine desire to see our students, our schools, and our community succeed. It is fitting that we have the opportunity to recognize his many years of service in a celebration that brings together generations of Metter Tigers. We are grateful for all he has given to Candler County Schools and congratulate him on this well-deserved honor."
The Homecoming Parade is a longstanding tradition that will feature students and organizations, Homecoming representatives, athletic teams, community groups, and other participants traveling through downtown Metter.
The community is invited to line the parade route and help us honor Dr. Longgrear while celebrating the 2026 Metter High School Homecoming.
