Candler County Schools Host Georgia House Study Committee on Reducing and Prioritizing Mandates for Public School Administration

Today, Candler County Schools were honored to host the Georgia House of Representatives Study Committee on Reducing and Prioritizing Mandates for Public School Administration. Committee members, along with First Lady of the House Dayle Burns, spent the morning engaged in presentations led by district and school administrators on several key topics:

Measuring Teacher Effectiveness: Do Assessments Tell the Whole Story? (The Committee was given the CRCT test on paper and a portion of the Georgia Milestones on the computer to give them a sense of what students must do.)

How Do School Discipline Requirements and Reporting Mandates Influence School Climate and Administrative Workload?

What Is the Evolving Role of School Counselors in Addressing Student Mental Health and Compliance Mandates?

Superintendents and staff from across the state attended, along with local legislators including Senator Billy Hickman and Metter mayoral candidate Rashida Taylor. Candler County Board of Education Chair Craig Lanier and Board Members Cheryl Hendricks and Brenda Brown were also in attendance.

The meeting began with a Posting of the Colors by the JROTC, a stirring performance of the National Anthem by four of our chorus students, and an opening prayer by 11th grader Sutton Dekle.

The morning concluded with great conversation, collaboration, and a guided tour of the new Metter College and Career Academy (MCCA) facility.
