On display this Saturday at the Historical Society from 9am-2pm!!
Fourth Graders at Metter Elementary School have completed a very special project in conjunction with the Candler County Historical Society...a series of Podcasts about the history of Metter/Candler County.
"A podcast is an audio file that is made available on the internet, usually in a series, much like a radio show...," says Miranda Thigpen, K8 Media Specialist. "but listeners can download to their mobile device or stream it through a listening app."
Students used old Metter Advertiser newspapers donated by Mrs. Suzanne Tyson to develop questions about the history of Metter. They then practiced the interview process before they met with longtime residents for the interview. Students recorded the interviews and edited them to produce three episodes for each person interviewed.
"This project works to connect students with the rich history of our community," says Thigpen. "By interviewing longtime residents, students were able to gain a deeper understanding of events and changes that have shaped Metter and Candler County over time."
These podcasts will help preserve these valuable stories for future generations.
This project and the podcasts, and the students who created them, will be on display at the Candler County Historical Society beginning Saturday, April 13 from 9 am until 2 pm. The project will remain on display each Saturday during the month of April. We encourage the families of these students and the public to come view this project.
"We are so very proud of these students," says Thigpen. "They have worked hard to produce a fantastic podcast series, while working with our older generation and developing soft skills at the same time."
