Help your child learn how to get smarter Studies show that people who believe in the value of hard work can face challenges, learn from them, and get smarter. When your child hits a learning obstacle, say things like, "I know you can do it. What else could you try?" Point out the effects of effort: "If you work on your project every day, you're sure to be proud of the result." Praise persistence, too: "You didn't give up until you figured it out! Your effort is making you smarter." https://tpitip.com/?15dY19702[

In celebration of World Book Day yesterday, local author Kevin Pittman visited Metter Elementary to share a selection of his books with our students. Kevin, who lives in Springfield, Georgia, has recently published several children’s books. He generously donated multiple picture books to our school library for students to enjoy. We’re grateful to Kevin for helping us inspire a love of reading in our students!

Studying can be a group effort Sometimes, studying in a group can be more effective than studying alone. To help set up a study group before a test, have your child find three or four friends who want to work together. At group meetings, the students can list key facts, then quiz one another. They can also discuss long-answer questions they think might be on the test. Then, each child can provide an answer to one or two at the next meeting. https://tpitip.com/?15dW19702

Teach your child to visualize goals Kids who can picture themselves achieving their goals are more likely to do so. Have your child focus on a goal, such as getting ready for school on time. Next, have your student picture following the steps to reach it: getting dressed, having breakfast and grabbing an organized backpack. Encourage your child to imagine how good it will feel to reach the goal. Then, say "I know you can achieve your goal." https://tpitip.com/?15dH19702

🚨 **Important Reminder About School Safety Systems** 🚨 Earlier today, there was an inadvertent push on a safety badge, which triggered a lockdown at our schools. While this was accidental, it highlights just how crucial these safety measures are in helping staff, students, and emergency personnel maintain situational awareness during any potential emergency. We are appreciative of everyone knowing their role and responding with swiftness. We understand that these systems can sometimes cause confusion, but they're in place for everyone’s protection. Our top priority is always the safety and well-being of our school community. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we continue to improve our emergency protocols. #winateverything

Sometimes, let your child learn by doing Teaching your child new skills is important, and it can be a great way to spend time together. But kids often lose interest when everything feels like a lesson. So, take a step back sometimes. Let your child decide how to tackle a project. You might ask if there is anything you can do to help. Remember that your child also learns a lesson from trying something that doesn't work. https://tpitip.com/?15ce19702 A veces, deja que tu hijo aprenda haciendo.

E-Tips for Parents Ask questions to strengthen your child’s thinking skills There are many ways you can help your child learn to think things through. One is by asking questions aloud like, "I wonder why that happened?" and then discussing possible reasons. You can also show interest in the questions the teacher is asking, as well as what is being taught. When your child expresses opinions, ask for facts that back them up. And when your student reads, ask "What do you think is the most important thing you read in that passage?" https://tpitip.com/?15cb19702 Haga preguntas para fortalecer las habilidades de pensamiento de su hijo.

E-Tips for Parents A positive attitude supports your child’s self-confidence By age seven or eight, many children become self-conscious. A critical inner voice says things like, "That's stupid" or "You read like an idiot." These feelings can affect your child's willingness to tackle challenges in school. To help your child develop confidence, don't criticize the worrying. Instead, praise your student's effort and point out progress.

E-tip from The Parent Institute Help your child be a good sport, on and off the field Sports and sportsmanship should go hand in hand. Learning to win without gloating and lose without complaining will help your child on the field and in the classroom. Encourage your elementary schooler to abide by the rules of the game, to follow the coach's directions and to play fair. Make it clear that good sports share the responsibilities of the team as well as its successes. https://tpitip.com/?15cT19702 Ayude a su hijo a ser un buen deportista, dentro y fuera del campo.

E-tips from The Parent Institute Nutrition and exercise boost brainpower March is National Nutrition Month. So it's a great time to talk with your child about healthy eating and the foods that nourish bodies and brains. Exercise is another vital part of health. As a family, make exercise a priority. Kids get more exercise when their families get involved! Turn off digital devices and have a push-up contest, walk up and down the stairs 20 times or shoot some hoops. Or, go for a walk together and talk about what you see. https://tpitip.com/?15cS19702 La nutrición y el ejercicio potencian la capacidad intelectual Marzo es el Mes Nacional de la Nutrición.
