On March 20, MHS JROTC had our every three-year JROTC Program of Accreditation (JPA).
Those units that meet the high standard are awarded the Honor Unit with Distinction or Gold
Star designation. We needed an overall score of 95 in all areas to earn the Gold Star. We scored
97.5 percent. There are 1,750 Army High School JROTC programs in the United States and
Puerto Rico. Fewer than eight percent of these programs earn this impressive distinction. There
are 120 JROTC programs in Georgia. Only 12 have earned Gold Stars.
On Saturday, March 23, MHS JROTC teams competed at the Georgia State Drill Meet. Keep
in mind that there are no tiers in JROTC Drill. Metter High School competes against 1A through
7A schools. Sargent First Class (SFC) Bryson Rush competed against the state’s best (35
Individuals) and is now the Georgia Individual Exhibition State Champion. That is so amazing.
Our Unarmed Drill Squad commanded by SFC Rush earned third in State competing against 36
of Georgia’s finest teams. Our Male/Mixed Color Guard Team commanded by Command
Sargent Major (CSM) Abby Hall earned fourth in state. The top five teams earned trophies. This
is such an amazing week and speaks to the quality of our students, teachers, staff, and
administrators. We are truly winners.
